Well, it’s almost Thanksgiving, and a time many of us stop to think about all the things we’re thankful for in life. To be honest, there is a lot in our world that isn’t pretty. I personally sift through countless Facebook posts about terrorism, broad strokes painted towards people w/ particular political leanings, videos about cats, and predictions of when the aliens will land on a daily basis.
Up is down, right is left, and people’s differences sometimes are further defined as a means to divide us rather than unite us. Despite all that, I have so much to be thankful for. I’m a lucky guy married to a wonderful gal. I have maybe the sweetest, zaniest beagle ever. I enjoy my day job, and I’m able to sneak some writing/art in here and there, too. I’m healthy, and realize how fortunate I am compared to many people in the world. Those are just a few off the top of my head, and I’m happy to say that there is so much more.
This year I’ve been more aware of people chasing their dreams. For some it’s writing, for others it’s painting. Some love to act, some make us laugh through their comedy, and a few are even talented musicians. These are all paths that aren’t easy to pursue, and in most cases are true labors of love. It takes determination, encouragement, and a good deal of luck to find success (a personal sense of accomplishment or something more monetary!) in any of those arenas. I’m thankful for those folks who share their talent with the world. Putting yourself out there to be reviewed, criticized, ignored, or forgotten isn’t easy. The upside, though, is that your efforts stick with someone long after they first experienced it, brighten a day, or inspire others around you to get outside of their comfort zone to also follow their dreams.
Thank you to everyone that has supported and encouraged me this past year. Your kind words, constructive feedback, and well wishes are more important and helpful than you’ll know! I wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you find time to also look at all of the good around us when so many times it’s easy to get sidetracked by all the bad.
(P.S. – For you Sky Horns Growling fans I’ve already setup the framework for the next installment and will work to get that out early 2016!)
